Why I Decided to Learn Spanish (Again)
This post is al little off-topic as I usually talk about English and English lessons - This time, I'm the student. As a language teacher, I’ve always believed in lifelong learning. I spend my days helping students build their English vocabulary, master tricky grammar rules, and feel more confident speaking—but I realized I wasn’t giving myself the same opportunity to grow.
I’ve studied a bit of Spanish in the past, and it’s always been on my “someday” list to get serious about it. But between lesson planning, resource creating, and all the joys (and chaos) of classroom life, I just couldn’t see how I’d squeeze in another class—especially one I’d have to physically attend.
That’s why I decided to try Lingoda. And let me tell you—it’s been a game changer.

What Is Lingoda?
Lingoda is an online language learning platform that offers live, interactive classes with certified teachers. You can take classes in Spanish, French, German, English, and Business English, and the best part? The schedule is completely up to you.
It’s not an app where you're clicking through flashcards alone—it’s real people, real conversations, and real progress. You just log into your account, choose the time that works for you, and join a live class (either group or private).
Why I Chose Lingoda Over In-Person Classes
As much as I love the idea of going to an in-person Spanish class, let’s be honest: there are only so many hours in a day. Between lesson prep, school events, and running my teacher business, I needed something more flexible.
With Lingoda, I can literally take a class at 6 a.m. before school, 8 p.m. after dinner, or even on a Sunday afternoon in my pajamas. The classes are available 24/7, so no matter what time zone or schedule you’re on, you can always find something that fits.
Plus, there’s no commuting, no parking, no stress. Just log in and learn.

What a Typical Class Looks Like
Each class is about 60 minutes long and taught by a native or near-native speaker. You’ll receive a downloadable PDF before class, which the teacher uses to guide the lesson. The materials are super clear and designed to help you with everything from vocabulary to speaking practice to listening comprehension.
You’ll join the class via Zoom, and it’s usually just 3–5 other students, so it’s never overwhelming. The teacher takes time to make sure everyone participates, and the vibe is always supportive—not intimidating.
And if you're feeling shy? You can choose a private class for extra one-on-one support!
How I Fit Lingoda Into My Teacher Life
I know what you're thinking—"This sounds amazing, but when am I supposed to fit this in?" Trust me, I had the same thought.
Here’s what’s worked for me:
- 1–2 classes per week: I treat it like a staff meeting or appointment. I schedule my classes in advance and put them on my planner.
- Early morning or evening sessions: I’ve done classes before school (coffee in hand) and late evening ones after I’ve settled in for the night.
- Weekend catch-ups: If my week gets hectic, I’ll log in for a Saturday or Sunday class and feel caught up again.
Lingoda makes it super easy to reschedule if something comes up—and you can cancel or switch a class up to 7 days in advance with no penalty.
What I Love Most About Learning with Lingoda
Here’s what really makes it work for me:
- Live speaking practice: I’m not just memorizing words—I’m actually speaking Spanish with a real teacher.
- Structured curriculum: The lessons build on each other and follow the CEFR levels (A1 to C2), so I always know where I’m at.
- Learning on my terms: I’m in control of my schedule, and that freedom keeps me coming back.
- Downloadable materials: Every lesson comes with a printable PDF I can review or reuse.
- Affordable plans: You can pay monthly, take private lessons, or join the famous Sprint challenge (more on that below!).
The Lingoda Sprint: A Fun Challenge for Consistency
One of the coolest things Lingoda offers is the Sprint Challenge. If you take a certain number of classes in a set period (like 30 classes in 2 months), you can earn up to 50% cash back!
It’s a great way to stay consistent—and honestly, who doesn’t love a challenge that comes with a reward? I’ve done one Sprint and not only did it improve my Spanish, but it also helped me form a solid study habit.

Tips for Teachers Using Lingoda to Learn a Language
If you're a teacher like me, here are a few quick tips to help you make the most of your Lingoda experience:
- Start with a placement test – Lingoda helps you find your CEFR level so you can jump into the right class from day one.
- Use what you learn right away – Try using your new Spanish phrases in class or with native speakers in your community.
- Review PDFs between lessons – They're gold for reviewing grammar or vocab on your own time.
- Don't be afraid to speak – Everyone’s there to learn. Making mistakes is part of the process!
- Set realistic goals – One or two classes a week is a great place to start and still make real progress.
